Rodney Hummer graduated from Missouri Western State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He joined the Missouri Air National Guard as a combat medic, served during the Gulf War, and was later commissioned as an officer, ultimately attaining the rank of Captain.
After transitioning to the civilian sector, Rodney worked as a registered nurse at his local hospital and earned his Nursing Home Administrator’s License. He went on to manage multiple long-term care facilities and was eventually promoted to Director of Operations for a multi-facility healthcare organization.
Rodney’s connection to Community Health Centers spans much of his life—as a patient, Board Member, Clinic Manager, Director of Development, Interim CEO, and healthcare strategist. His passion for Community Health Centers is deeply rooted in their mission and impact. As Rodney explains: “My career has always been about serving others. I love working with Community Health Centers because they take a boots-on-the-ground, frontline approach to healthcare—meeting people where they are, addressing real community needs, and providing hope, healing, and opportunity to those who need it most.”
Today, Rodney serves as Vice President of Strategy for the Missouri Primary Care Association, where he works alongside Missouri’s Community Health Centers to improve access to quality healthcare for more than 600,000 Missourians. He also serves on the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Rural Veterans Health Advisory Committee, Missouri’s Governor’s Challenge Team focused on reducing veteran suicide, Missouri’s Governor’s Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Task Force, and the National Association of Community Health Centers Veteran Task Force. These roles allow him to advocate for rural healthcare, veterans’ health, behavioral health, addiction recovery, and suicide prevention at both the state and national levels.
Throughout his career, Rodney has been recognized for his commitment to public service and community health. His honors include the Hometown Hero Award and the Citizenship Award, reflecting a lifelong dedication to serving others. He is also a member of American Legion Post 287, an Eagle Scout, and a former Scoutmaster of Troop 60 in Savannah, Missouri, where he helped mentor young leaders and instill values of service, citizenship, and character.
Rodney and his wife, Lisa, live on a farm in Andrew County, Missouri. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and are proud parents of four children, one son-in-law, and grandparents to three grandchildren. In his free time, Rodney enjoys spending time with family, volunteering, working on the farm, reading, enjoying the outdoors, and a little “tractor therapy” whenever time allows.
Whether serving veterans, advancing rural healthcare, strengthening Community Health Centers, improving behavioral health and addiction recovery services, or mentoring future generations, Rodney remains committed to improving the health and well-being of the communities he serves.
