Policy & Advocacy

MPCA’s ability to provide services to our members as well as other organizations has been rooted in our policy success since our inception. To date, we have secured:

Two capital improvement campaigns totaling more than $135 million
A statewide prescription drug monitoring program
The removal of certain onerous restrictions for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
A provider loan repayment program
A funding increase and program expansion for our Community Health Worker and Women & Minority grants

Funding for life-saving substance use disorder and behavioral health services

Reinstatement of Adult Medicaid Dental Coverage

Medicaid Reimbursement for Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists

Medicaid Health Home Funding

12 Month Continuous Medicaid Coverage for Pregnant Women

Federal Legislative Champion support from former United States Senators Kit Bond and Roy Blunt resulting in hundreds of millions of federal dollars for new CHC sites and services

MPCA’s Government Affairs team and its member Government Affairs Committee work diligently each year to create and oversee the policy priorities at the state level.

Beginning in 2023, MPCA began hosting an Advocacy Retreat for members to better inform them of the trends and potential pitfalls of healthcare policy, as well as to create the policy agenda for the following year. MPCA also provides tools and resources for members to encourage advocacy efforts from the local level to the federal level.

MPCA encourages members to cultivate and maintain relationships with their elected officials and provides technical support when necessary to aid in that process.
